On a recent trip to Liberia the ReclaimKids team visited a small structure where 50-80 children congregate nearly every day to play and learn while their parents are away at work. This is a community where the cost of daycare is out of the question for most parents so many children are left alone or with very young siblings while their parents work. The Kamara’s, concerned community members that care about the children, built a simple structure with walls made of thin, woven mats and each day the children congregate and Mother Comfort Kamara provides what she can in the way of learning, love and protection for the children. She teaches them songs, how to read and write Bible verses as well as teaching them national pride through the study of Liberian patriotic information and history.
During the months of rain from April to September, it is very difficult for the children to meet in this structure with little protection from the elements and the children spend these months without the nurture and protection provided by the Kamaras.
ReclaimKids seeks to provide a permanent cinder-block shelter for the work of the Kamara’s to serve the needs of the children in the Paynesville community.
Thank you for your interest in participating in this project. For further information, contact Clyde Fox at rueldaf@sbcglobal.net

Paynesville Medical Clinic Project
Tuesday, October 27th, 2009
UNICEF reports that 1 out of every 4 children in Liberia will not see their 5th birthday. About half of all births in Liberia are unattended by any medical professional resulting in high infant and maternal mortality rates. Affordable, rural clinics are greatly needed for the Liberians still recovering from 14 years of war.

On the recent ReclaimKids trip to Liberia, we encountered individuals much in need for medical attention but with few options they could readily access and afford. Typically people have to travel long distances on foot for health care treatment, but either cannot endure the journey or afford the cost. The NGO in Liberia with whom ReclaimKids partners, Apostolic Relief Services, has built a medical clinic in the rural area of Paynesville. In this community, the need is large and people are desperate. This clinic will provide affordable health care to the community and surrounding areas. The primary goal is to decrease infant and child mortality as well as treating long term illnesses and diseases. The people in Paynesville are visiting the clinic daily in anticipation.
We are looking for individuals, hospitals or companies to donate the following:
- Medical supplies
- Medications
- Hospital equipment
- Funds to complete the electrical and plumbing components

Bomi Hills Liberia Library Project
Friday, October 23rd, 2009UNICEF reports that 48% of Liberian adults and 30% of youth ages 15-24 are illiterate
On our recent ReclaimKids trip to Liberia we noticed the extreme lack of books everywhere, including on the desks of teachers and school children. The teachers write on the board and the children copy it down and information is therefore limited to what the teacher can remember. Books are very prized in Africa where the cost of a single book might represent a month’s salary. For this reason, ReclaimKids wishes to establish a community library in the remote area of Bomi Hills where local community members have donated furniture, property and labor to build a small building.
We have collected over 1200 books for the people of Bomi and a foundation has been laid for the 400 square foot cinder block building. Please download the Bomi Library flyer attached for project information. Click here to download a list of book African literature that would be much appreciated to suppliment books with Western orientation. Below is general list of items needed. Books should reflect the average Liberian reading level of 6-8th grade.
Thank you very much for your support of this project for the fine, hospitable people of Liberia.

Bomi Hills Library Project
Thursday, September 10th, 2009BOMI HILLS LIBERIA
Library Project
ReclaimKids, a US-based non-profit serving the children of Africa, adopts the Bomi Hills Community Library project as an extension to current orphan housing and schooling projects operating in Bomi Hills; a rural, war ravaged area of Liberia.
ReclaimKids partners with Liberian NGO, Apostolic Relief Services (ARS) with 25 years of relationship tenure and experience managing African humanitarian projects. The Bomi Hills Community Library, with an initial collection of 1200 books, will be built on a school campus where ReclaimKids currently manages orphan schooling and housing projects.
